Enclosed capacitors can be mounted in
any plane
PFC Engineering has a range of pre-assembled and boxed fixed capacitors, suited for use with individual motors, or small clusters and ideal for medium sized installations.
PFC Engineering has a range of pre-assembled and boxed fixed capacitors, suited for use with individual motors, or small clusters and ideal for medium sized installations The capacitors, available with or without switch protection, effectively reduce the burden on the circuit that feeds the motor control centre, as well as its supply, in turn reducing the demand on the supply network

PCB-based-capacitor disposal service
PFC Engineering offers a service whereby, as part of power factor equipment replacement or refurbishment, the company will also safely dispose of any PCB materials encountered.
The capacitors are available in three versions, designated C, CF and CB.
As a result of the degree of isolation provided by the box, they can be wall or floor mounted or situated next to a motor.
The CF version is supplied with a fuse-switch, and the CB with a circuit breaker.

Dry capacitors for power factor correction
A new range of power factor correction capacitors from PFC Engineering provide high overload capacity, long life expectancy, safe reaction at overload and a range of other benefits.
Capacitors are available from fractional kW to the largest motor rating and are of the dry type, so there is no possibility of leakage.
The capacitors have a very high current load capacity, which is far more important than the voltage load capacity, since it is the current load that is most affected by dirty supplies.
For instance, in networks polluted by harmonics, a higher RMS current load occurs.
At 400V AC, these capacitors have a permissible current load capacity of twice the rated current permanently and up to 350 times the rated current during short peaks.
Voltage overload is in accordance with the VDE 0560 part 41, EN60831-1 and -2, and IEC 831-1 and -2 standards.
The metallised polypropylene foil that forms the dielectric is self-healing in the event of overload.
The capacitor elements have exceptional power density, with 30kVAr reactive power housed in a compact 85mm diameter by 355mm high cylinder, including the connecting terminal.
This is achieved by having a high utilisation of the dielectric, coupled with a very low loss factor.
A mineral filler is used to gain the very high life expectancy in the devices.
This effectively enables partial discharges (the negligible electrical discharges made inside the dielectric) to be suppressed.
The materials used are of high purity and field tests of these materials suggest a failure rate of less than 1% in 15 years of operation.
The PFC capacitors are very safe, with an overload facility provided as standard, which activates at internal overpressure to disconnect the capacitor from the mains.
Essentially the cover plate of the device is raised, causing the rupturing of the internal connecting wires to the coil.
Touch free terminals also provide for an IP2X rating in single capacitor elements.
