STP solution is economical alternative

A Performance Technologies product story

Pioneer Cellular is using the Performance Technologies SEGway 6200 Mini-STP to consolidate SS7 traffic on the Pioneer wireless cellular network, allowing the company to significantly reduce costs while offering value-add, next-generation services to customers.

Pioneer provides revenue-generating services with CDMA technology, such as picture and text messaging, mobile web browsing and downloadable applications.

Performance Technologies' SEGway Mini-STP is enabling the company to offer competitive long distance telecommunications and expanded user services for residential and business customers, without incurring additional costs.

Performance Technologies offers a suite of feature-rich STP solutions that allow small and mid-size carriers to manage and take control of their SS7 network and reduce the requirement for costly, leased SS7 links.

"In a business as competitive as the wireless industry, it is imperative that we find ways to surpass our competitors in terms of the services we offer", said Richard Ruhl, General Manager of Pioneer Cellular and Pioneer Telephone Cooperative.

"Performance Technologies' Mini-STP is a compelling solution that enables us to offer the same services as a large carrier, while utilising our existing infrastructure".

"Without the SEGway Mini-STP, we would not be able to offer customers the value-add services we are offering today".

For smaller wireless operators, the costs associated with SS7 port charges for connectivity into core signalling networks are high, and purchasing a traditional STP is prohibitively expensive.

Performance Technologies' SEGway STP solutions offer an ideally scaled and priced alternative for small and mid-size carriers.

Deploying a small scale STP allows the carrier to consolidate SS7 traffic onto fewer links and perform some routing within their network.

Decreasing the traffic load backhauled on leased SS7 facilities and using these links more efficiently can significantly reduce STP port requirements.

"Today's telephone operators continue to face economic pressures that prompt them to seek out new solutions for lowering operating costs, improving the quality of the services they offer and deploying new revenue-generating services to customers", said Deb Brunner-Walker, Signalling Product Manager for Performance Technologies.

"Our SEGway STP solutions provide one way for operators like Pioneer Cellular to reduce SS7 infrastructure costs while taking control of their own SS7 networks".
