Quad-processor blade supports demanding networking

A Performance Technologies product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jul 26, 2005

The IPnexus CPC714 is a quad-processor resource blade designed for demanding packet-based networking, telecommunications, network management and data/process control applications.

New from Performance Technologies, the IPnexus CPC714 is a quad-processor resource blade designed for demanding packet-based networking, telecommunications, network management and data/process control applications.

The new CPC714 represents the latest addition to the Performance Technologies' Advanced Managed Platform offering.

With four independent 440GX PowerPC processors and an onboard switched architecture, the CPC714 provides greatly increased computing power and application processing flexibility at a moderate cost.

Each 800MHz processor on the CPC714 features 512Mbyte memory, L1/L2 cache, and dual gigabit interfaces with built-in TCP/IP acceleration.

The 6U CompactPCI 2.16 blade also offers CompactFlash and hard disk options for local program access and data storage.

The networked, multiprocessor architecture of the CPC714 can be applied as a parallel processing compute blade, as a cluster of compute elements integrated on a single blade, or as an array of processors across multiple blades in a system.

Because of the switched architecture of the CPC714, it is highly scalable and easily deployed within demanding IP telephony and wireless applications.

The CPC714 is available with NexusWare Core, Performance Technologies' field-hardened, Linux-based development, integration and management environment.

NexusWare Core offers a wide range of easily accessible addons to take full advantage of the CPC714 architecture, such as communications protocols and open source applications including clustering, NAT, load balancing, on-demand server pools and firewalls.

In addition, Performance Technologies will be releasing an OpenSSI-based clustering package tailored to this architecture.

"By employing multiprocessing concepts, the CPC714 represents a truly significant advancement in processing blades", said Hank Heneghan, Director of Product Management for Performance Technologies.

"With its high-speed onboard switched architecture, our customers can capitalise on its network-centric capabilities and array of processors to create highly scalable packet-based systems".

The IPnexus CPC714 is available immediately.

Pricing is below $4500 at OEM quantities.
