PolarFab has achieved qualification for production of 8in wafers of its PBC4 0.5-micron BiCMOS process The PBC4 process was designed for smart-power and power management IC applications and provides the ability to integrate dense 0.5-micron CMOS with high-voltage drivers, enabling the fabrication of extremely complex smart-power chips

PBC4 accommodates power levels of up to 30V, with up to 40V planned for 2003, and is ideal for motor controllers, gate drivers, and microprocessor supervisory circuits.

The PBC4 process is also available on 6in wafers, providing the same comprehensive cell library and performance levels as the 8in process.

Design support for PBC4, such as the process design kit (PDK), models and design and layout manual is identical for 8 and 6in wafers.

This satisfies second source requirements and allows designers greater flexibility because, rather than having to select wafer size early in the design stage, they can base the size on production requirements that may be determined later in the design process.

The PBC4 process features dual gate oxides (5.5 and 16V) and complementary N- and P-channel mosfets with 5, 16, and 30V capabilities, a 16V poly-poly capacitor, a ZTC poly resistor, and a vertical NPN transistor.

Two- and three-layer metal versions of the process are currently available, with additional devices and 40V capability planned for availability in 2003.

The PBC4 process for 8in wafers is completely supported by PolarFab with a full-featured Cadence PDK, ESD cells, a digital library, a comprehensive manual, excellent models for all devices, and application notes.

Production wafer pricing starts at $1786 for a 25 per week run rate.
