Under a new exclusive manufacturing agreement, PolarFab will provide wafer-manufacturing services for Sipex Corp.

Sipex Corp has entered into an exclusive manufacturing agreement with PolarFab, the only US-owned, pure-play semiconductor foundry Under this exclusive arrangement, PolarFab will provide wafer-manufacturing services for Sipex products

As part of the agreement, PolarFab will install the necessary capacity in order to meet Sipex's long-term business plan.

Sipex will also receive expedited delivery and engineering support from PolarFab.

The relationship complements Sipex's internal wafer fabrication capabilities and other wafer foundries for lower end products.

With this new agreement, PolarFab will fabricate all high end products in Sipex's power management and interface families, in addition to continuing to provide wafer fabrication for Sipex's DVD solutions.

PolarFab's extensive range of high performance bipolar and BiCMOS processes and wafer manufacturing technologies will allow Sipex to provide products with higher speed and increased accuracy, while reducing new product time to market.

Walid Maghribi, President and CEO of Sipex, stated: "PolarFab has played a key role in providing us with the technology required to differentiate us from all the suppliers in our market segment.

Their commitment to customer service, high quality, excellent engineering support and competitive pricing fits with our culture and has made them the ideal partner for the long term".

"We believe that this arrangement is very beneficial to Sipex.

It provides the guaranteed capacity we need at competitive prices, while providing us with the most advanced technologies to help us differentiate our products.

The strong commitment between our companies will give us the tools needed to expedite our new product development and possibly enter markets previously not available to us", added Maghribi.

Greg Peterson, President and CEO of PolarFab, said, "We have been working with Sipex for several years, and recognise them as a leader in the analogue IC market.

We are pleased to broaden and extend our relationship with this agreement.

Co-operative alliances such as this are essential to help both companies address the dynamic market demands of the semiconductor industry".
