The ISO9001:2000-based standard specifies the quality system requirements for the design, development, production, installation and servicing of automotive-related products.
It was written to simplify multiple national standards for suppliers of products to this market by providing a single quality standard with strict requirements.
Manufacturers that achieve certification typically realise continuous business and manufacturing improvements such as: reduction of waste and product failures; lower costs and cycle times; improved supply chain management; better time and resource utilisation; increased product and service consistency and traceability; and enhanced customer satisfaction.
"This certification is mutually beneficial for both PolarFab and our customers".
"The process-based approach allows us to continually revitalise our mission, strategies, quality policy and objectives, and overall level of performance, while optimising resources and costs", said Ed Schnable, Vice President of Quality.
"Our customers can count on our flexibility and speed of response to their ever-changing market needs".
"It also serves as a bridge to support product development and relationship development that converts short-term gain into long-term growth".
Linda Johnson, Director, Automotive Quality at Allegro MicroSystems, stated: "Continuous improvement is the basis for zero defect strategy, and the development of a system compliant to the strict requirements of TS16949 supports this philosophy".
"PolarFab's favourable results to the certification process are evidence of their ability to adopt and implement better practices, as well as their emphasis on the customer".
In order to achieve ISO/TS16949:2002 certification, PolarFab built on its existing quality system implemented for ISO9001:2000 certification, which it achieved in 2003.
