Best year yet for Phasa
A 10% growth in customers and a 15% increase in annual turnover has resulted in the best year ever for plastic hot air assembly specialist Phasa Developments.
A 10% growth in customers and a 15% increase in annual turnover has resulted in the best year ever for plastic hot air assembly specialist Phasa Developments.
Yet, according to the company's Business Manager, Tony Woods, Phasa's performance could have been even more impressive had it been able to fill a number of key design engineering posts during the past 12 months.
"We are obviously pleased to have increased sales significantly in the face of some tough trading conditions", he comments.
"However, it has meant our engineering resources have been continually stretched.
I am convinced that we have been held back, unable to fulfil our true potential, simply because we've not found sufficient high calibre design engineers to meet our needs".
Phasa Developments, which relocated to Harlow six months ago, specialises in designing and manufacturing high speed, automatic assembly systems for plastic components.
The company has pioneered the development of hot air staking to the point that it can today achieve more than 200 riveted fixings in a single operation.
The process offers a simple and effective method of producing permanent, low-cost and vibration resistant fastenings in thermoplastic components and assemblies, making it the ideal choice for applications throughout manufacturing industry - particularly within the automotive, IT equipment and domestic appliance sectors.
"Over the past few years, the process has come of age", adds Woods.
"It is increasingly regarded as a de facto standard within the automotive sector for the assembly of everything from headlamp units to interior trim.
However, much of our growth during the past year has been in other industry sectors.
In addition, we are beginning to see the benefits of recently-appointed distributors in the USA, Germany, Australia and Japan".
Phasa continues to forecast significant growth in export sales during 2002 despite the global slowdown of manufacturing industry.
It is also working on a number of new product developments; further underlining the company's need to expand its technical resources.
"2001 was undoubtedly the best year to date in Phasa's 20 year history", Woods continues.
"The ability to recruit sufficient experienced mechanical and electrical design engineering staff during the coming months will be a key factor in enabling us to build on this foundation to achieve even greater success in the future".
