Philips' new complete Bluetooth system solution enables wireless technology designers to focus on taking product functionality to the next level without worrying about complex design issues.

Philips' new complete Bluetooth system solution enables wireless technology designers to focus on taking product functionality to the next level without worrying about complex design issues The solution consists of Philips' Blueberry Data baseband IC (PCF87752) and its TrueBlue radio module (BGB101)

Complimented with leading edge software, this unique system solution finally makes Bluetooth wireless technology a practical option for communication, computing and consumer applications at home, in the office or on the move.

"Philips was the first chip manufacturer to introduce a commercially viable Bluetooth baseband device to the wireless market in 1999", said Francisco Ferrer, manager wireless personal area networking at Philips Semiconductors.

"The addition of a complete new system solution builds on our expertise and heritage as a pioneer and highlights our continued leadership in the development of complete wireless connectivity solutions".

Blueberry Data is a new baseband family member suitable for hosted and several embedded applications for mobile communications, consumer and computing.

It combines low power consumption levels with 224Kbyte of embedded Flash and a USB 1.1 interface with embedded transceiver.

The PCF87752 supports a wide range of discrete radio ICs and radio modules.

Blueberry Data's recognised Bluetooth core will help ensure interoperability with all major mobile phone and PC manufacturers' Bluetooth compliant devices.

The TrueBlue BGB101 is a pre-qualified, fully tested and plug-and-play Bluetooth radio module.

This second-generation radio unit incorporates all RF parts thereby simplifying the development and production of Bluetooth applications.

Smaller in size than its predecessor the BGB100, the BGB101 measures 89mm2.

Power consumption has been optimised to maintain best in class performance.

These features make this TrueBlue radio module an optimal choice for lowest total cost of ownership.

Development boards with Blueberry Data, BGB101 and software are expected in August 2002.

Samples of standalone Blueberry Data and the BGB101 are expected in July 2002.

Full-scale production is expected during Q4 2002.
