The new Philips Delft Design Centre in Delft, The Netherlands is a co-operative venture between Philips and the Delft University of Technology.

The new centre highlights Philips' commitment to investing in the future of standard analogue semiconductor technology and ensuring the best learning environment for future generations of electronics engineering students.

At its opening, the Philips Design Centre will have three permanent Philips employees dedicated to design work in support of standard analogue IC developments.

These analogue designers will work alongside three professors, two PhD students and two MSc students from the Delft University of Technology.

The opening of the Philips Delft Design Centre strengthens a 17-year relationship with the Delft University of Technology and takes advantage of Delft's strong analogue reputation.

"Capitalising on the longstanding relationship with the Delft University of Technology, Philips will be able to expand its research capabilities and work more closely with students", said Ben Adamo, vice president and general manager, Standard Analogue, Philips Semiconductors.

"Investing in the future of analogue is crucial.

As the demand for digital grows, so will the need for analogue interface and power management products.

The Philips Delft Design Centre will help us strengthen our expertise in analogue design well into the future".

Design engineers from the USA, France and The Netherlands, where Philips analogue engineers are currently located, will be able to rotate through the centre to build their competence, working with both the university and local analogue contractors.

The expectation is to eventually house 30 full-time employees in the centre within the next three to five years.
