Philips has devised the Nexperia Partner Programme for Mobile applications to enhance the feature rich Nexperia Mobile portfolio the company provides to OEMs and ODMs in the mobile terminal market.

Philips has introduced the Nexperia Partner Programme for Mobile applications, to further enhance the feature rich Nexperia Mobile portfolio the company provides to OEMs and ODMs in the mobile terminal market.

The programme enables independent software vendors (ISVs) and integrators to deliver middleware, applications and reference designs to complement the company's Nexperia Mobile family.

As the line between the consumer electronics and mobile worlds continues to blur, the Nexperia Partner Programme encompasses both arenas, making it the ideal catalyst for the next generation of converged devices.

As consumers demand increasingly advanced multimedia functions on their mobile phones, and development cycles for new products continue to decrease, the integration of components and software has become a major challenge for mobile manufacturers.

The Nexperia Partner Programme presents mobile phone manufacturers with a simple solution to the complex issue of integration.

The programme delivers a suite of software components and applications that are validated and approved to run on Philips' Nexperia Mobile range of multimedia semiconductor solutions.

Through the programme, partners can port software applications to both open Operating System (OS)-based Nexperia System Solutions as well as solutions based on Philips' own OS, reducing time to market on a range of platforms.

"Over 150 million Nexperia Cellular System Solutions have been brought to market since 1999".

"The Nexperia Partner Programme will enhance the Nexperia Mobile portfolio that we provide to our customers, enabling them to develop leading-edge mobile phones", commented Wil Baas, Senior Director Software Strategy and Ecosystems, Communications Businesses, Philips Semiconductors.

"As software applications in mobile phones are becoming ever more diverse and sophisticated this initiative will enable Philips and its partners to rapidly address the needs of mobile phone manufacturers today and will make mobile multimedia simple".

Through the programme ISVs and companies that offer design and integration services gain special access to Philips technology to enable them to create state-of-the-art solutions for the Nexperia Mobile portfolio.

Partners also gain the benefit of working with a global organisation with sales and marketing programmes worldwide.

Resulting from the programme, Philips and its 14 initial partners will offer highly integrated hardware and software, reducing time to market and enabling manufacturers to spend more time on differentiating products though their mechanical design and man-machine interfaces (MMIs).

The new members of the Nexperia Partner Programme representing the mobile space are: ARM, Kineto Wireless, MadWaves, MCCI, MontaVista Software, Open-Plug, Philips Software, S3 (Silicon and Software Systems), Sasken Communication Technologies, Segger Microcontroller Systeme, Symbian, Teleca, Trolltech and UIQ.
