NXP Semiconductors reports heavy demand for its EPCglobal-certified Generation 2 ultra-high-frequency ICs from companies in China.

NXP Semiconductors reports heavy demand for its EPCglobal-certified Generation 2 (Gen 2) ultra-high-frequency (UHF) ICs from companies in China.

The UCode EPC G2, which supports both EPC (Gen 2) and ISO/IEC18000-6c, is widely supported by manufacturers within the RFID industry, enabling continued global deployment of RFID technology.

With broad deployment of the EPC Gen2 standard, different RFID labels and readers are fully interoperable in different global regulatory environments.

As a result, suppliers and manufacturers throughout the supply chain can realise significant improvements in performance, cost and reliability, as well as easy migration to future EPC classes.

NXP has received significant orders from Asian inlet and label manufacturers, including Invengo Information Technology China (formerly known as YWGIT), which has placed an initial order for double-digit million UCode EPC Gen2 ICs.

Invengo was the first company to offer RFID solutions in China and it is now the clear leader in the RFID market there.

Invengo's adoption of NXP EPC Gen2 and ISO/IEC18000-6c compliant ICs will ensure widespread use throughout China, as well as other Asian countries.

These companies also supply products to Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world, which now requires its suppliers to use RFID Gen2 compliant technology.

"NXP RFID ICs, compliant to EPC Gen2 and ISO/IEC18000-6c, are reliable and high-performance solutions", said Yusuo Xu, Chairman, Invengo.

"We selected NXP technology following Wal-Mart's RFID mandate, which has adopted Gen2 technology to take advantage of its high performance and added security features".

"Wal-Mart already sources a considerable amount of its products from China, putting the country's RFID labelling industry, and NXP technology, in very high demand".

"NXP was the first major IC manufacturer to offer an EPCglobal Gen2 IC product, and we now also meet the ISO18000-6c standard".

"The ISO/IEC standard provides regulatory compliance to further simplify worldwide implementation of RFID solutions", said Jan-Willem Reynaerts, General Manager, RFID Market Sector, NXP Semiconductors.

"Invengo is an established and respected supplier of RFID solutions, with a significant customer base in Asia".

"Following a successful collaboration in the LF and HF markets, we are now excited to expand the relationship into the UHF markets as well".
