NXP's new KDECT RF transceiver is a cost-optimised low-power highly integrated BiCMOS circuit.

NXP Semiconductors has launched an innovative South Korea KDECT (Korean Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) transceiver for use in cordless phone designs from LG-Nortel and Novita, as the South Korean market begins its transition from analogue to digital telephony Korea Telecom targets launch of KDECT phones in April 2007, with devices from LG-Nortel and Novita

Based on its 14 million Internet subscribers, Korea Telecom intends to use NXP's RF and baseband solutions to expand its portfolio of applications to include VoIP and video phone services.

NXP's new KDECT RF transceiver is a cost-optimised low-power highly integrated BiCMOS circuit.

Due to compliance with the entire NXP baseband family, NXP can offer a complete system solution to address this new market.

The high sensitivity (-96dBm) of the UAA3547 provides long range capability, delivering crystal clear communications.

In addition, the low current consumption enables extended standby and talk-time.

"Numerous vendors presented aggressive proposals for our South Korean DECT project, but the market-leading baseband performance of the NXP solution proved the most efficient and cost-effective", said KY Park, Korean DECT Project Leader, LG-Nortel.

"Our decision to implement NXP's solution was driven by their strong position in the RF and baseband markets, but also the fact that we can extend our implementation into cordless VoIP applications".

"NXP boasts an extensive DECT portfolio, and is highly regarded in the industry for its RF technology", said YJ Park, Korean DECT Project Leader, Novita.

"Our relationship with NXP has been rewarding in Asia and we are currently initiating a drive into the European DECT market".

The UAA3547 transceiver features a highly integrated circuit with on-chip VCO, a synthesiser to implement a phase-locked loop, a TX preamplifier and a highly sensitive receiver.

NXP Semiconductors has established itself as a market leader in DECT chipset manufacturing, providing a worldwide geographical footprint delivering advanced DECT solutions.

The NXP DECT portfolio includes support for DECT, DECT 6.0, WDCT 2.4/5.8GHz.

Today's news further reinforces NXP's position in the cordless market and broadens NXP's RF transceiver portfolio.

"NXP's tailored KDECT offering is ideally positioned to facilitate the transition, enabling manufacturers to minimise development costs and accelerate time to market, based on their existing developments on the NXP digital cordless solutions for DECT, 2.4GHz and DECT6.0 systems", said Brian Robertson, General Manager, Cordless and IP Terminals, NXP Semiconductors.
