WiMAX transceivers go in two-by-two
Transceivers employ 2x2 MIMO technology, allowing for twice the data throughput and double the maximum speed of existing WiMAX transceiver solutions.

One of few 2x2 MIMO WiMAX solutions in the industry, NXP's new family of UXA234xx WiMAX transceivers improves reach and drives greater bandwidth and spectral efficiency, being particularly effective for accessing a WiMAX connection in dense urban areas.
Further, because 2x2 MIMO allows for dual input and output channels, it addresses the requirements of bandwidth-intensive mobile applications, such as streaming data, voice and video data, without compromising network load and at a much lower cost to carriers.
End users can thus experience speeds of up to 15Mbit/s - three to five times faster than today's wireless broadband cellular networks.
"WiMAX is changing the way and speed that consumers will access content by permitting a quadruple play of voice, video and data transfer while on-the-move, allowing the connected consumer to engage in a truly nomadic way of life" said Will Strauss, analyst, Forward Concepts.
"MIMO-powered WiMAX is significant because it delivers higher bandwidth at less cost".
In addition, building on the success of NXP's first family of WiMAX transceivers, the new family guarantees seamless handover from basestation to basestation - one of the biggest challenges facing designers of WiMAX equipment.
The new family also delivers optimum interoperability with a variety of basebands by using standard analogue I/Q and serial interfacing, and co-exists with cellular, WLAN and Bluetooth standards.
The UXA234XX WiMAX transceivers offer a fully integrated direct-up transmitter and ZIF architecture with a small foot print of 6 x 6 x 0.85mm.
The solution set supports channel bandwidths from 3.5 to 20MHz and various flexible calibration techniques for optimum performance and lowest power consumption.
With no need for an external IF filter, the solution set requires minimal external components.
The UXA23466 and UXA23476 WiMAX 2x2 MIMO transceivers are sampling now.
Volume production will start in Q2.
