EDGE mobile phones built around Nexperia platform
China's biggest mobile-handset maker is using NXP technology to develop cost-effective EDGE phones for the Chinese market, which currently consists of 400 million subscribers.
Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology, the biggest mobile handset manufacturer in China, has chosen NXP Semiconductors' technology to be at the heart of its new EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) mobile handset.
Using NXP's Nexperia cellular system 5210, this mobile handset is designed around consumers' demands for a cost-effective transition from 2G to 3G cellular technology.
Lenovo Mobile plans to introduce the handset targeting China's 400 million mobile phone subscribers.
NXP's Nexperia cellular system solution 5210 is the second generation product of the EDGE platform, following the success of the market-proven Nexperia cellular system solution 6120.
Its GSM/GPRS/EDGE platform combines software and hardware designs that can provide optimised multimedia performance without the need for an external coprocessor, significantly reducing bills-of-material.
This state-of-the-art product comes pre-tested and validated to enable Lenovo Mobile to accelerate time to market and develop EDGE mobile handsets with more advanced features, at a lower price and with stronger power management.
By using NXP's EDGE platform, Lenovo Mobile will be able to further strengthen its market positioning, expand its high-speed wireless transmission business and comprehensively address its customers' latest requirements.
"China's mobile handset market is at an important growth stage", says Eric Zhao, Senior Director, Product Department of Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology .
"NXP's EDGE solution is designed with cutting-edge technologies that have been proven in the market and are an ideal choice for Lenovo Mobile to develop mature and high-performance EDGE mobile handsets for consumers with the shortest time to market".
"As a very successful example of new technologies, Lenovo Mobile's handset products can meet diverse demands from different consumers", says Adrian Chu, VP of China Sales and Regional Marketing for mobile and personal business unit, NXP Semiconductors.
"Leveraging NXP's successful experience of collaborating with a variety of customers and suppliers, the company enables its customers to implement applications with the latest technologies in a short time to update their products and cater to local market requirements".
First shipped and mass produced in Q4 2004, more than 250 million Nexperia system systems have already been shipped worldwide, with more than 30 million EDGE mobile handsets based on NXP products in the market.
