Phyworks has expanded its family of transimpedance amplifiers for application in fibre-optic modules from 1 to 4Gbit/s.

Phyworks has expanded its family of transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) Designed for 1 to 4Gbit/s fibre applications the PHY1092, PHY1093 and PHY1094 enable module manufacturers to benefit from cost reductions by employing one core chip supplier

Phyworks reduces design effort costs by providing a fully integrated and supported solution.

The PHY1092 is optimised for Gigabit Ethernet and FTTx ONU applications up to 1.25Gbit/s, with a typical sensitivity of -29dBm at 1310nm.

The PHY1093 functions optimally for applications up to 3Gbit/s, making it ideal for Sonet multirate modules up to OC48.

It features an input sensitivity of -25dBm at 2.488Gbit/s and an input overload of 3mA peak-peak.

The PHY1094 is designed for applications from 1 to 4.25Gbit/s, making it ideal for multirate SFP modules for 1x, 2x, 4x Fibre Channel applications.

It has a bandwidth of 3.2GHz and a typical sensitivity of -21dBm at 850nm.

Each of the TIAs combines a high-sensitivity input stage with an output AGC amplifier to give a wide useable dynamic range, for DWDM or electronic dispersion compensation applications.

They are designed to interface with Phyworks' integrated PHY1070 and PHY1075 155Mbit/s-4Gbit/s driver/receiver products, which are in volume production.

Volume pricing is as low as $0.50 for the PHY1092, $0.60 for the PHY1093 and $0.70 for the PHY1094.

Samples of the entire family are available now, with volume production scheduled for April 2005.

According to Phyworks CEO, Stephen King: "Being able to offer the entire chipset enables us to improve overall system performance and deliver to our customers significant cost benefits, while at the same time offering the added convenience of working with just one expert supplier".

"ROSA manufacturers using our TIAs will be able to take advantage of our experience and systems expertise in the optical market".
