Pelikon has been working with US-based Universal Electronics in developing a universal remote control using the power of an EL display in place of the traditional hard button rubber key mat.

UK-based electroluminescent display specialist Pelikon has been working with US-based Universal Electronics (UEI) in developing a universal remote control using the power of an EL display in place of the traditional hard button rubber key mat Combined with Pelikon's EL technology, UEI was able to introduce its Kameleon line of products featuring Intelligent Illumination - allowing all Kameleon products to offer advanced control functionality while keeping the control interface simple and uncluttered

"The performance characteristics of EL InterfaceDisplay technology make it an ideal medium to meet the demanding performance requirements by UEI", says Chris Barnardo, Marketing Director of Pelikon who adds: "In addition to designing and developing the unique flexible and ultrathin (0.5mm) InterfaceDisplay, Pelikon's advanced technology group has developed novel, energy-efficient and proprietary high-voltage driver ASIC solutions designed to deliver the EL display's power management capabilities with a focus on cost effective design and production for the mass consumer market".

"The development and manufacture of Kameleon by Universal Electronics and its use of Pelikon's InterfaceDisplay in such a mass market, confirms Pelikon's status as a world class display technology provider with a unique solution suitable for a wide range of consumer products", says Mike Powell, CEO of Pelikon.
