The Electronics Enabled Products Knowledge Transfer Network aims to benefit a large section of UK industry, including electronics users within defence, automotive and aerospace sectors.

This week saw the launch of the Electronics Enabled Products Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), designed to benefit a large section of UK industry including electronics users within defence, automotive and aerospace sectors Harnessing the academic strengths of both Loughborough University and the University of Nottingham and the industrial and technology transfer expertise of Pera, the KTN will address the needs of companies active in the design and manufacture of complex engineered products underpinned by electronics

The Network has also extended its European links by encompassing the internationally renowned Fraunhofer TEG as an associate partner.

KTN Director Dr Kathryn Walsh comments: "Electronics enabled products impact on a wide range of UK industry, from large systems-integrating companies to small design and manufacture companies creating highly differentiated products".

"It is crucial that there is a central resource for this fragmented group of companies to access the latest developments, industry expertise, best practice and advice".

The KTN will offer companies in-depth support including subsidised techno-economic feasibility studies, technical consultancy, and support and advice in gaining local, national and European funding, together with guidance on university schemes.

Companies also have access to an online portal which allows them to access reports and briefings, roadmapping activities, online conference and meeting facilities and to take advantage of being part of a larger industrial community.

The KTN is one of a network of KTNs which forms part of the DTI Technology Programme and provides a route for companies to influence the DTI Technology Strategy.

"Knowledge transfer between universities and industry is vital for creating the conditions of business success in the UK", said Dr Peter Davies, Chair of the KTN and CEO of Pera.

"The KTN will build on the previous work of the Prime Faraday Partnership and ensure that companies in industries crucial to the UK can compete on the global stage".
