Seminars to extol autocode enabled technology

A Pi Technology product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Apr 21, 2003

Pi Technology is to offer seminars in the UK sharing its research and development on autocode enabled technology.

The time has come for autocode enabled technology to be used in delivering production software, claims leading exponent Pi Technology, which is to offer seminars in the UK sharing its research and development on the 'hot topic'.

Having developed what the company believes to be an industry first in three fully auto-generated and safety-critical applications for a production vehicle, Pi Technology was encouraged by the response for a knowledge-sharing event in Michigan, USA.

The seminar was heavily oversubscribed and generated animated discussion amongst the large audience, primarily the major OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, Pi Technology expect a similar response from the UK.

David Taylor, Pi Technology USA Business Development Manager, said: "Autocode is already accepted for use in prototype and development, but so far has not reached its potential for production software development.

Pi Technology has developed a number of tools and processes that make this a practical proposition, offering significant savings in time and cost as well as improving quality.

Our engineers are happy to visit interested companies and hold seminars to discuss the state of the art in this powerful new method".

The seminars will discuss the work carried out to date by Pi Technology and Ford on their fuel cell vehicle programme.

This has called for the software development for three brand new electronic control systems to Ford's production requirements, the vehicle system controller (VSC), energy management module (EMM) and thermal systems controller (TSC).

"We believe we have achieved an industry first; three fully auto-generated and safety-critical applications for a forthcoming production vehicle".

said Taylor.

David Taylor listed some of the main benefits of Pi Technology's autocode technology: it comprises executable Matlab/Simulink designs; it can run all or parts in simulation to iron out problems early; 'autocode' C is generated directly by RTW; it runs directly on production hardware; users can change design and rebuild for fast prototyping; there is no need to maintain matching hand code; there is no danger of introducing 'human' bugs at coding stage; and it reduces the time to process additions or changes.

Taylor continued, "In addition, Pi Technology has developed automated mechanisms to assist unit and other testing to ensure code quality, much as you would by hand coding the same software.

Even in challenging applications, we have produced autocode that runs comfortably within the available RAM and CPU power of the production target hardware which is based upon the Motorola BlackOak".
