NEC Electronics has adopted NanoRoute from Plato Design Systems to tape out a number of its advanced ASICs.

NEC Electronics has adopted NanoRoute from Plato Design Systems to tape out a number of its advanced ASICs These designs consist of three million or more gates, operate at over 250MHz and are implemented in 0.18 and 0.13-micron process technologies

The decision to use NanoRoute in these designs came after NEC Electronics designers performed extensive benchmark tests on several physical design tools and found NanoRoute to produce the fastest turn-around time and the best timing and routability results.

On average, NanoRoute has shown a significant turnaround-time improvement over other routers NEC Electronics benchmarked.

NEC Electronics is in the process of deploying NanoRoute in its standard ASIC design flow.

"Fast turnaround time to deliver manufacturable designs and reach timing closure is very important for NEC Electronics' ASIC design solutions", asserts Hiroshi Nakashiba, vice president of NEC Electronics' US Technology Center.

"We were impressed by the performance of Plato's routing solution and the high-quality designs it produces.

As design size and complexity continue to grow, we are confident that Plato's scalable routing technology will add significant value to NEC Electronics' ASIC business".

"NEC Electronics has been at the forefront of process technologies, design methodologies and manufacturing in the ASIC business", stated Dr Limin He, president and chief executive officer of Plato.

"We are very proud to add NEC Electronics to our growing customer list.

Today, high-end applications are driving the capacity and complexity of chip designs.

NEC Electronics' decision is clearly another indication that our scalable routing solution plays a key part in tackling large chip designs.

Given the shift to large SoC designs in the semiconductor industry and the strong demand for our routing solution, we are accelerating our company's growth and the introduction of NanoRoute to both ASIC and COT companies".
