Multi-million-pound deal for games device

Plextek has finalised a multi-million-pound deal to help design and develop the very latest "lifestyle" games console with Gametrac Europe.

Independent electronics design consultancy Plextek has just finalised a multi-million-pound deal with Gametrac Europe to help design and develop the very latest "lifestyle" games console that will be launched onto the UK open market during the second quarter of 2004.

As the design authority for Gametrac, a wholly owned subsidiary of US-headquartered Tiger Telematics, Plextek will work on the Gametrac advanced series of new and small handheld products that will combine state of the art gaming and content, with GPS tracking.

Gametrac is a trendy pocket-sized mobile console which brings together highly desirable content including three-dimensional gaming, SMS text (with predictive text), MP3 music, video playback (MPEG4) and an inbuilt digital camera.

The handset will also be Bluetooth enabled (allowing multiplayer gaming) with accessories such as SD Flash cards and stereo headsets available too.

The GPS module onboard is highly accurate and can even provide in-building coverage (unlike most commonly known GPS modules).

Parents can keep track of the device at most times.

This, combined with all the other "cool image" features, makes the product a "must have" for children.

As the product uses the GSM mobile system, it will work in over 250 countries around the world.

Delivery of the initial batch of 25,000 units is due within the second quarter of 2004.
