Connector modules bring power to Ethernet
A new PowerJack Series of dedicated integrated connector modules (ICMs) target end-span power over Ethernet (PoE) applications.
A new PowerJack Series of dedicated integrated connector modules (ICMs) target end-span power over Ethernet (PoE) applications.
These are the first dedicated 1x1, 1x2, and 1x4 ICM solutions compliant with IEEE802.3af.
The new devices are capable of delivering 15W of power to a remote location, 100m away.
This is sufficient to charge a laptop computer or maintain networking devices such as remote security camera equipment, wireless networking systems, remote sensors and transducer devices, and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) phones.
By centralising remote interruptible power supplies in one location, installation is improved and maintenance costs reduced.
The PowerJack series provides inline power feeding capability within existing unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cabling architecture, upgrading an existing Ethernet connection to a powered Ethernet connection conversant to IEEE802.3af.
There is minimal disturbance to an existing system's integrity.
Using existing UTP to establish a PoE-enabled connection reduces installation costs and allows the user to access remote devices via a single PoE connection for both power and data.
The system includes a battery backup, ensuring data integrity at all times.
The new devices maintain system hipot integrity and typically provide greater than 2kV isolation.
The PowerJack series is a 10/100Base-TX RJ45 single-port connector with LEDs and integrated magnetics that can operate at a temperature range between 0 and 70C.
They are designed to operate with most leading physical layer device (PHY) manufacturers' products with the addition of power feeding over the signal pairs according to IEEE802.3af.
The product family includes parts JK0-0020, JK0-0025 and JK0-0026 (1x1), JG0-0031 (1x2) and the JG0-0032 (1x4).
The ICMs deliver 1.5kV RMS minimum breakdown between primary and secondary windings.
Their unique design ensures a separation of greater than 2.0mm between power, signal, and ground pins.
The PowerJack ICMs are available in trays.
Lead-time is four to six weeks with samples available within two weeks.
