PLX Technology and Kaparel Corp have formed a strategic alliance to demonstrate PLX PCI Express functionality on Kaparel AdvancedTCA (ATCA) backplanes.

PLX Technology and Kaparel Corp have formed a strategic alliance to demonstrate PLX PCI Express functionality on Kaparel AdvancedTCA (ATCA) backplanes.

PLX's recently announced PCI Express I/O interconnect silicon will use Kaparel's backplanes both as a validation platform and a system verification tool.

This methodology should not only increase silicon quality, but also prove chassis-level operation.

"This major milestone marks the first time PCI Express technology will be implemented on an ATCA chassis", said Larry Chisvin, Vice President of Marketing at PLX.

"The alliance is yet another example of PLX's and Kaparel's long-standing dedication to provide customers with a time-to-market advantage".

"Kaparel is pleased that PLX will be using our chassis to validate their PCI Express silicon designs", said Tom Sutherland, General Manager at Kaparel.

"Our continued relationship is a testament of our companies' common vision to provide customers with proven system solutions for next-generation products".

This strategic alliance should ensure that PLX PCI Express silicon is compliant with the PCI Special Interest Group specification, but also will operate in real-world form factors such as an ATCA chassis.

Combining Kaparel's system-level leadership and PLX's semiconductor expertise should help to ensure standardised, efficient system operation.
