The innovative PLX PCI 6000-series of PCI-to-PCI bridging products provides designers with support for the entire range of current PCIbus widths and speeds.

PLX Technology now offers the industry's broadest set of PCI-to-PCI bridges, which allow more devices to be attached to the widely used PCIbus, offer the ability to provide intelligent adapters on a PCIbus and allow PCIbuses of different speeds to be part of the same subsystem The PLX PCI and PCI-X family of interconnect devices now features its two newest members: the PCI 6520 and PCI 6540, PCI-X to PCI-X bridging devices that offer system designers features and performance not possible until now

These new devices, the first members of the innovative PLX PCI 6000-series of PCI-to-PCI bridging products, provide designers with support for the entire range of current PCIbus widths and speeds, including 32bit, 33MHz; 64bit, 66MHz; and the latest 64bit, 133MHz PCI-X variety of the standard.

"The new PLX PCI-to-PCI bridging product line is distinguished by featuring the lowest power, highest performance and smallest footprints of any devices of their kind", said Larry Chisvin, Vice President of Marketing at PLX.

"The products include features such as the ability to clock the PCIbus segments asynchronously to one another and to operate the parts in either transparent or non-transparent mode.

This is crucial when the same module is designed to be used as a host or a peripheral in a system".

The PCI 6520 (transparent) and PCI 6540 (dual mode, transparent or nontransparent) are asynchronous, 64bit, 133MHz PCI-X-to-PCI-X bridging devices.

Each was designed to provide differentiated system level benefits for designers needing to migrate their platform to the PCI-X standard.

Like all PLX interconnect chips, the PCI 6520 and PCI 6540 are supported by PLX's comprehensive reference design tools and the industry recognised PLX support infrastructure.

The 6500 series of PCI-X bridging devices offer tangible advantages that the competition cannot provide.

They offer a smaller footprint and lower power than competing devices, and are the only PCI-X-to-PCI-X bridging chips that provide a wide a range of advanced features such as: PCI 2.3 and PCI-X Rev 1.0 compliance; 5V tolerance on I/Os; CompactPCI hot swap compliance; general-purpose I/O pins for driving LEDs or identifying module configuration; large 10Kbyte FIFOs; secondary clock outputs for driving other PCI components on the module; true nontransparent operation (PCI 6540); the ability to bridge from legacy PCI devices to 133MHz PCI-X; and small 27 x 27mm 380 PBGA packaging.

The broad 6000-series product line is currently in production.

The new 6500-series of PCI-X devices have already been sampled to a wide variety of PLX customers, and will be in production in Q3 of this year.

The products are priced at less than $30 in high volume.
