The PLX PCI Express Design Contest gives engineers worldwide the opportunity to display their PCIe expertise and a chance to win a US $1500 prize The contest calls for each participating designer to write an application note on a unique design using the PLX ExpressLaneT PEX 8111 PCIe-to-PCI bridging device, then submit it to PLX by 26th May 2006

All entries will be evaluated and judged by a panel of PLX engineers and managers.

The winning design, which will be announced on 12th June 2006, will garner its developer a US $1500 American Express gift card.

"Since its introduction in 2004, the PEX 8111 has generated tremendous excitement among designers from around the world who've discovered the potential for this versatile PCI Express bridge", said Steve Moore, Senior Product Marketing Manager for the PEX 8111.

"The PCI Express Design Contest draws on their PCI Express expertise, and gives them a unique opportunity to show how they would go about designing the PEX 8111 into compelling applications".

One of the first members of PLX's extensive ExpressLane family of bridging and switching chips, the PEX 8111 is the industry's smallest PCIe bridge.

The device enables board and system designers to easily develop new products or migrate existing standard and small-form-factor conventional PCI designs to the PCIe architecture.

The PEX 8111's rich array of features include a small 10 x 10mm 161-ball plastic BGA package, support for forward and reverse bridging, and low power consumption (0.3W maximum).

Designers interested in taking part in the PLX PCI Express Design Contest simply need to: fill out an entry form on the PLX Technology website; write an application note featuring the PEX 8111 device; and submit the entry form and final application note to PLX Technology before the closing date.
