PMC-Sierra and Alvesta solve 10 Gigabit Ethernet

PMC-Sierra and Alvesta have demonstrated 10 Gigabit Ethernet interoperability between PMC-Sierra's PM8355 QuadPHY-II SERDES device and Alvesta's 3200 optical transceiver.

PMC-Sierra and Alvesta have demonstrated the reliability of 10 Gigabit Ethernet interoperability between PMC-Sierra's PM8355 QuadPHY-II serialiser/deserialiser (SERDES) device and Alvesta's 3200 optical transceiver.

PMC-Sierra's and Alvesta's solution meets strict electro-optical timing requirements for 10 Gigabit Ethernet, providing customers with confidence for rapid deployment for next generation networking equipment.

"The interoperability between PMC-Sierra's QuadPHY-II SERDES device and Alvesta's 3200 optical transceiver will enable customers to speed up the deployment of 10 Gigabit Ethernet, fibre channel, InfiniBand optical module interfaces, and multigigabit serial backplanes in next generation networking equipment", said Peter Wong, strategic marketing manager of PMC-Sierra's enterprise and storage division.

"By working closely with Alvesta, we're providing system developers with several benefits including design flexibility, accelerated time-to-market and reduced development costs".

PMC-Sierra's QuadPHY-II interfaces with Alvesta's 3200 optical transceiver and successfully transmitted and received data over 100m of standard 50/125um multimode fibre error free.

A data pattern at 3.125Gbit/s was generated in the QuadPHY-II and transmitted over the 10 Gigabit attachment unit interface (XAUI) to the Alvesta optical transceiver.

"PMC-Sierra and Alvesta's XAUI devices are designed to the IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gigabit Ethernet specification and have proven successful communication with each other", said Robert Nalesnik, vice president of marketing at Alvesta.
