New from PMC-Sierra is the Ocelot-C CompactPCI evaluation board for the RM7000C and RM7065C MIPS-based 64bit processors.
The Ocelot-C evaluation board, codeveloped by PMC-Sierra and Momentum Computer, also includes Marvell's industry-leading, next generation Discovery II MV64340 system controller.
Developed for high-performance networking applications such as routers and printers, the evaluation board will provide system integrators with increased performance, flexibility and lower power consumption.
PMC-Sierra's RM7000C and RM7065C MIPS-based processors, which are sampling at clock speeds up to 600MHz, are supported by Marvell's Discovery II MV64340 system controller on the evaluation board.
The evaluation board supports SysAD bus speeds of 133MHz (LVTTL) and 166MHz (HSTL) for maximum processor-to-peripheral communications bandwidth.
The Marvell Discovery II MV64340 device offers a 72bit DDR memory controller with a 183MHz clock rate, onboard 2Mbit SRAM, dual 64bit PCI/PCI-X interfaces, PCI bridge and arbiter, three 10/100/1000Mbit/s Ethernet controllers, two multiprotocol serial channels and 12C and interrupt controllers.
The Ocelot-C evaluation board occupies a single slot in a standard CompactPCI chassis and is hot swappable.
It also has the capability to auto-sense and operate as a Compact PCI system slot or non-system slot.
The evaluation board has two Gigabit Ethernet (copper) ports, two Ultra160/320 SCSI interfaces, and a standard PMC slot, with VxWorks or Linux operating systems.
"Marvell has a proven track record in the industry for providing leading-edge, high-performance system controllers targeted at sophisticated next-generation networking, storage and printing applications", said Gary Smerdon, Marvell's vice president of Marketing for the Communications Business Group.
"The Ocelot-C evaluation board with Marvell's new Discovery II MV64340 system controller and PMC-Sierra's RM7000C processors provides system designers with a powerful platform to help expedite hardware and software development for next-generation, high-end networking and imaging applications".
"By combining PMC-Sierra's RM7000C and RM7065 MIPS-based 64bit processor along with Marvell's Discovery II companion chip, the Ocelot-C evaluation board provides a complete high-performance processor subsystem solution for developing applications", said Tom Riordan, vice president and general manager of PMC-Sierra's MIPS Processor Division.
The RM7000C and RM7065C are PMC-Sierra's first MIPS-based processors to use the latest 0.13-micron low-voltage process, which lowers power consumption to 2.5W at the maximum clock rate of 600MHz, while increasing performance and reducing die size.
Similar to all RM7000 family products, the RM7000C and RM7065C are equipped with 256Kbyte of integrated Level 2 cache, as well as 16Kbyte each for the independent Level 1 instruction and data caches.
An enhanced system interface on the RM7000C and RM7065C provides compatibility with legacy system controllers (LVTTL levels: 2.5 or 3.3V) to increase speeds up to 133MHz, as well as next generation controllers (HSTL level: 1.5V) for speeds up to 200MHz.
