Young Electronics now offers Lambda's latest family of power supplies.

Young Electronics now offers Lambda's latest family of power supplies Lambda is a leader in power supply manufacture, and the company's new NV-Power series boasts significant improvements in component count, heat management and efficiency

It also offers AC/DC power solutions that meet modern demands through features including high density and low power consumption.

The products already available include the NV175, which is particularly suited to broadcast, instrumentation and medical applications.

It has a power density of 9.3W/in3 and has as many as five outputs ranging from 0.9 to 15V.

Also available is the NV350, which is a 350W modular unit with a density of 6.6W/in3.

"We are always delighted to add innovative products to our portfolio and we can see many opportunities for our customers to benefit from Lambda's latest development - in particular the advantages of small size and thermal performance that the NV175 will bring to the targeted market sectors", comments Scott Lacey, Business Development Manager, Young Electronics - Powerline.

"Lambda has a long-standing relationship with our Powerline division and has recognised the value we add in bringing its products to market by adding NV-Power to our portfolio".

The NV series has efficiencies of up to 90%, thanks to multiple efficiency gain technology and patented multi resonant topology technology reducing the need for heatsinks.

The use of an onboard microcontroller reduces the power control component count by 50% and they require 40% less board space.

This enables units to be smaller, lighter and more efficient.

The new topology allows the use of smaller inductors and wound components.

A small output choke reduces losses, as does a ferrite boost choke wound with Litz wire.

Improvements in multilayer ceramic capacitors and functional organic polymer capacitors allow the implementation of much simpler inductorless filter circuits.

And the use of silicon carbide Schottky diodes in the PFC circuit improves efficiency by 4%.

As well as efficiency gains the units are easy to cool, allowing the use of a quieter fan than equivalent power supplies.

They are thus particularly suited to applications where low noise is a priority.

The units meet medical compliance as standard and low earth leakage meets 601 compliance.

As well as medical applications, the NV family is aimed at markets such as instrumentation, broadcast, ATE, automation, industrial computing, network servers and routers, security and life sciences.
