Graphics cards simultaneously access two PCI slots
Pericom Semiconductor has announced its Signal Switch technology, which is a key component in enabling multi-GPU mode in ATI's Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire platform technology.
Pericom Semiconductor, a supplier of high-speed interfaces and PCI-Express lane appropriation and multiplexing, has announced its Signal Switch technology, which is a key component in enabling multi-GPU mode in ATI's Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire platform technology.
"ATI's feature-rich Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire platform technology was built from the ground up for the enthusiast", said Reuven Soraya, Director of Chipset Platform Technology, ATI.
"Working with the Pericom team has helped us to achieve a highly flexible design that allows our motherboard customers to choose whether they want their board to operate in CrossFire, dual-GPU mode or in single-GPU mode to deliver maximum flexibility and graphics performance".
"By working with the ATI team, Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire technology was supported by Pericom providing ATI with the ability to access two x8 PCI Express slots at the same time or a single x16 PCI Express slot".
"The accessibility of the two x8 slots simultaneously is accomplished using Pericom's exclusive PCI Express compliant Signal Switches in conjunction with the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire chipset", explained Shaf Rahman, Pericom Product Marketing Director.
The Pericom PI2PCIE412-D PCI Express Signal Switch is an enhanced, 1.8V, PCI-Express compliant, 4-differential channel, 2:1 mux/deMux switch with single enable.
These devices are in full production now with datasheet and samples available.
Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire Edition motherboards will be available from ATI motherboard partners in the fall of 2005.
