Clock buffers run from lower voltages
New generation of clock products enables very cost effective clock distribution with tight signal integrity requirements for applications such as gigabit Ethernet.
Pericom Semiconductor Corp has released the industry's lowest operating voltage clock buffers.
This new generation of clock products enables very cost effective clock distribution with tight signal integrity requirements for high growth networking, storage, and telecomms infrastructure applications such as gigabit Ethernet.
"Our new clock buffer family enables communications and storage customers to migrate their switching platforms to lower voltage, lower power designs using minimal components", said Kay Annamalai, Pericom's Senior Director of Marketing for Timing Products.
"This provides the benefits of improving reliability while saving power and cost at the same time".
"These products are compatible with the most advanced, low-voltage processors and controllers populating high growth platforms such as gigabit Ethernet".
"Market research firm Dell'Oro Group reports that 224 million Ethernet ports were shipped in 2005, growing to 324 million ports in 2010".
The new product family generation offers very low skew (70ps), controlled duty cycle, and integrated very low phase noise crystal oscillator options.
The PI6CL1080x/PI6C1080x family of clock buffers operates with supply voltages of 1.2/1.5 and 1.8/2.5V, respectively, and accept input voltages of up to 3.6V.
For further cost savings, some of the family products also have an option that enables internal clock generation for frequencies of up to 40MHz without needing an external crystal oscillator.
In addition to a wide selection of advanced clock and clock buffer IC products, Pericom also provides companion crystal and crystal oscillator solutions - thus providing the most complete clock tree solutions for a wide variety of high-speed serial protocols - including gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express, SATA, SAS and XAUI.
The PI6CL1080x and PI6C1080x families are available in sample and production quantities now.
List prices range from US $0.80 to $1.00 in 5000-unit quantities.
