Following a visit from Profibus expert Manfred Popp on 2nd May 2001, University of Wales College Newport was confirmed as Wales' first and the UK's second Profibus Competence Centre (PCC).

Equipped with a substantial multivendor Profibus DP and PA demonstration system, the centre will become a valuable resource to Profibus users not only in Wales but also much of the rest of the UK.

Not only will It help to satisfy the increasing demand for Profibus training but will also be able to provide independent consultancy on Profibus applications.

Starting from May 2001 UWCN will be running a regular schedule of Profibus PA training courses alongside their already established DP courses.

Each PA course will last for two days and involve a great deal of hands-on practical work using industrial standard controllers, software and field instrumentation.

The UWCN PCC joins 21 other competency centres to be accredited worldwide since the scheme was introduced less than 2 years ago.
