Profibus International has announced the availability of two new specifications for Profibus users, integrators and OEMs.

Profibus International has announced the availability of two new specifications for Profibus users, integrators and OEMs.

The Slave Redundancy Specification describes the slave redundancy mechanism for Profibus, giving the basic mechanisms for redundant slaves used in multimaster control systems.

The specification for Profibus Device Description and Device Integration contains the specifications for GSD (Basic Profibus Device Description), EDDL (Electronic Device Description Language) and FDT (Field Device Tool Interface).

GSD, EDDL and FDT represent the means to configure network devices and to parameterise and/or manipulate their operational modes.

Whereas GSD and EDD are based on human readable descriptions, FDT defines a set of interfaces to integrate device-specific software components into engineering tools or other frameworks.

Regular members or higher of Profibus UK can download these documents from the Profibus International website; others may purchase the documents on CD ROM GBP 96 + VAT.
