Power over Ethernet works with IP-based cameras
PoE Midspan and Active Splitter solutions from PowerDsine have been tested and certified with Sony's IP-based video cameras.
PoE Midspan and Active Splitter solutions from PowerDsine have been tested and certified with Sony's IP-based video cameras.
PowerDsine's PoE Midspan solution is compliant with the IEEE802.3af PoE standard, enabling power feeding through Ethernet cabling infrastructure.
The Midspan solution is widely accepted for safely and reliably powering numerous enterprise devices including voice over IP phones, wireless LAN access points and IP-enabled network cameras.
As IP surveillance is increasingly replacing traditional closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance and monitoring devices in enterprise environments, PoE technology offers significantly reduced installation costs, enhanced security and control by using remote management, no down time due to power outage when used in conjunction with a centralised uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit, plus the ability to cost effectively install remote video cameras in locations where separate power outlets are impractical or not available.
Sony's IP video cameras have been tested with PowerDsine's family of PoE Midspans and Active Splitters for supplying reliable and uninterrupted power using an existing LAN cable infrastructure, and therefore eliminating the need for separate power cabling.
Sony's SNC-Z20N model is the first IP camera in the industry that is compliant with the IEEE802.3af standard, and accepts power supplied via Ethernet cabling from PowerDsine's PoE Midspan.
In addition, the new Sony SNC-CS3N and SNC-RZ30N (high power PTZ) models support PoE technology when used in conjunction with a PowerDsine PoE Active Splitter and PowerDsine's 6000 Midspan and 8000 high-power PoE Midspan, respectively, thus providing a comprehensive PoE solution to the complete IP camera Sony product line.
With the current SNC-RZ30N and SNC-Z20N, in addition to the SNC-CS3N, Sony offers a comprehensive suite of IP surveillance cameras.
"As the leader in the network camera market, we understand the benefits of power over Ethernet for IP camera installations, and we have quickly responded to the increasing demand by supporting PowerDsine's power over Ethernet midspan solutions", said Nobu Kawasaki, Senior Marketing Manager for IP solutions at Sony Electronics' Broadband Communications Products Division.
"With the addition of PowerDsine to our IP cameras product line, we can offer a complete solution to enable our customers to take advantage of reliable power distribution while reducing the cost of deploying network cameras within their IP surveillance systems".
PowerDsine's PoE Midspan solutions are based on its PoE chipset technology, and include 1-, 6-, 12- and 24-port designs that are compliant with the IEEE802.3af standard.
The company's Midspan solutions also support power management with SNMP capability.
"We are extremely pleased that an industry leader like Sony has certified our power over Ethernet Midspan technology with their IP-based video cameras", said Igal Rotem, President and CEO of PowerDsine.
"We are seeing huge demand for our power over Ethernet Midspan solution in enterprises that are deploying IP telephony and Wi-Fi networks, and we are beginning to see the same demand in the IP surveillance market this year".
