Cellular wireless semiconductor specialist Icera uses Perforce, the fast software configuration management system, to version and manage its software development.

Cellular wireless semiconductor specialist Icera uses Perforce, the fast software configuration management (SCM) system, to version and manage its software development for its wireless soft modem and adaptive wireless technology for mobile phones and datacards Icera credits Perforce's performance, scalability and reliability with quick and efficient management of its source code

Icera selected Perforce in a head-to-head comparison with a competing SCM system.

During the comparison, Icera concluded that the competing product was too difficult to administer and it also lacked the desired scalability.

Migration to Perforce was simple: Perforce "simply slotted in", according to Steve Allpress, Icera's Vice President, Wireless Systems and cofounder.

"Perforce also required little downtime to implement", added Allpress.

Five months after deployment, Icera has benefited from the way Perforce effortlessly handles multi-site development; changes are merged between both of Icera's sites in Bristol, UK and Sophia-Antipolis, France.

In addition to developers' praise of Perforce, Icera's IT support department claims it works invisibly in the background and requires little or no maintenance.

Perforce manages over a million lines of source code at Icera.

The company currently has 72 developers using Perforce and plans to double this as the company expands.

Allpress explained: "Perforce is powerful, reliable and scalable and requires very little maintenance".

"It has helped Icera develop more robust and efficient development processes, which have certainly been a factor in helping Icera to get where it is now; our previous solution would not have enabled this".

"Perforce has made branching much easier and faster than before, plus it's easy to graphically view the branching status".
