Perforce Software has announced the upcoming availability of the newest version of Perforce, the fast software configuration management (SCM) system.

Release 2006.2 includes an enhanced version of the Perforce Server and new features to several client tools.

Perforce SCM is an award winning tool that versions and manages source code and digital assets for enterprises large and small.

Server highlights in Perforce 2006.2 include: improved branching performance, automatic labels, more administrative control and file size calculation.

"The most important part of Perforce is the back-end or server which is the intelligent part of the system", explained Christopher Seiwald, President and chief technology officer.

"I believe we already have the best SCM engine in the world and our server enhancements ensure we keep pace with the voluminous growth of data our customers manage".

Perforce 2006.2 also features enhanced versions of the following client tools: the Perforce Windows Client, the Perforce Web Client, the Perforce Plug-in for Windows Explorer and the Perforce FTP Plug-in.

Perforce version 2006.2 will be available in late December.

Interested developers are invited to download and evaluate Perforce free from the Perforce website without obligation for a 45-day trial.

This offer includes free technical support during the evaluation period.

A free, fully functional, two-user version is also available from the website.

End-user licences, including one year of support and maintenance, start at US $800 per seat; volume discounts are available.
