The Trim Xe product family provides numerous advantages over prior generation xenon products as well as LED "flash".

PerkinElmer Optoelectronics has launched its new Trim Xe family of xenon flash products PerkinElmer's new Trim Xe product family provides numerous advantages over prior generation xenon products as well as LED "flash"

The Trim Xe line delivers a dramatic 35% reduction in module size over prior generation xenon products.

In addition, xenon flash provides 1000 times greater brightness than the brightest LEDs in consumer photography applications and enables greater than 100 times faster shutter speed and shorter exposure time than with LEDs.

With lamp diameters as small as 1.3mm, the Trim Xe line comes in a variety of sizes and power levels to cover the most demanding digital photography applications including the rapidly evolving mobile phone Industry.

Digital still cameras (DSC) and film cameras with xenon flash have set the standard that consumers expect in quality photographs.

Xenon flash is the de facto light source in virtually all consumer and professional camera applications.

It's intense but short light discharge freezes motion, lights objects at longer distances, and provides clear, crisp photos without needing brightness modification, contrast correction or image stabilisation.

Xenon flash technology provides a wider and more uniform light distribution than LEDs as well as a colour temperature closer to natural sunlight.

"With the introduction of PerkinElmer's new Trim Xe product-line, the mobile phone industry can for the first time match DSC photographic image quality in a trim package that fits the requirements for today's ultraslim mobile phones".

"Until now, phone handset manufacturers and consumers had to settle for an inferior light source in their mobile phone cameras", says John Tan, Vice President and General Manager for Consumer Electronics, PerkinElmer Optoelectronics.

"When it comes to digital photography of all types, there is nothing like a 200us burst of xenon light to capture sharp, clear images and freeze motion".

"LEDs are simply not in the ballpark of matching xenon's speed, colour or image quality", Tan adds.

"We've been tracking PerkinElmer's efforts for a couple of years now to reduce the size and power requirements for xenon flash modules and make them appropriate for camera-phone applications", said Tony Henning, Senior Analyst for Mobile Imaging at Future Image.

"Their hard work has paid off with this new Trim Xe family of flash products".

"The sise and cost constraints placed on camera modules for mobile phones - especially the current crop of super slim fashion phones - means those tiny cameras are typically starved for light".

"Xenon Flash modules are a welcome addition and should provide a real boost for mobile photography", Henning adds.
