Cambridge-based power supply manufacturer Powertron has relocated to a new design centre in the village of Knapwell, about 5 miles west of the city.

The intention to move the business was first mooted in September 2001, when the company was acquired by Elektron, formerly known as Bulgin.

Powertron and Elektron's Lincoln-based Bulgin Power Source subsidiary now form the Power Management Division of Elektron, and together they manufacture power supplies for a wide variety of applications in market sectors such as utilities, railways, communications, security and industrial control.

Powertron's entire engineering and sales teams have now moved to Knapwell, together with a number of support staff, and the company's production operations have been transferred to the Bulgin Power Source facility in Lincoln.

"With the expiry of the lease on Powertron's premises in the centre of Cambridge, we knew that we would have to relocate the business during 2002", commented David Brannock, Managing Director of Bulgin Power Source.

"The new design centre provides a first-class working environment for the engineering and sales staff, and moving Powertron's production work to our highly automated plant in Lincoln will deliver both economies of scale and increased efficiency", he said.
