Surface-mount convertors supply the point of load
Power-One has added a second series of products to its Nex family of POL convertors.
The combination of a wide-input voltage range (3.0 to 13.2V DC) and a programmable output (0.7 to 3.6V DC) allows the use of just one part in many intermediate bus architecture (IBA) POL applications, providing customers with cost savings in inventory and supply-chain management.
Additional cost savings result from not having to use a through-hole process on an otherwise all-SMT board and the cost of the board space saved when compared with horizontally mounted SMT products.
An exceptionally small 7.85 x 32mm footprint results in a current density of 6.8A/cm2.
Additional features include remote sensing, remote on/off, output short-circuit protection, and a -40 to +125C operating-temperature range.
Pricing is $27 each in quantities of 1000.
Evaluation kits are available on request.
Production quantities are typically available in eight to ten weeks.
The Y5117P is available in tape and reel packaging to facilitate manufacturing with automatic pick and place equipment.
Steve Goldman, Chairman and CEO, comments: "The Y5117P is another milestone in our advanced-technology-product business model.
Our strong balance sheet and in-depth understanding of customers' applications continues to uniquely position us to pursue an aggressive strategy of broadening our available market with intellectual-property-rich products such as the maXyz family".
Goldman continues: "With the addition of the Y5117P, Power-One has met an industry need for vertical surface mounting of complete POL solutions.
We will continue to develop innovative products specifically targeted to address opportunities in the growing IBA market and are on track for the introduction of many additional products in near-term quarters".
