Dr Naveed Sherwani, cofounder, President and CEO of fabless ASIC company Open-Silicon, has joined Pyxis' Technical Advisory Board (TAB).

Dr Naveed Sherwani, cofounder, President and CEO of fabless ASIC company Open-Silicon, has joined Pyxis' Technical Advisory Board (TAB) "Naveed literally 'wrote the book' on physical design, ASICs and physical design automation", said Naeem Zafar, President and CEO of Pyxis

"His wide experience in technical engineering will add great value to our internal expertise and the input of our existing Board of Directors and TAB as we develop a next-generation router that can address yield and manufacturability issues during physical design implementation".

Dr Sherwani has over 19 years experience in technical engineering and general management.

Prior to founding Open-Silicon, he was the founder and general manager of Intel Microelectronics Services, where he led efforts to promote the use of disciplined ASIC methodologies to improve design efficiency and time to market.

Dr Sherwani co-architected the Intel microprocessor design methodology and environment that has been used in various leading microprocessors.

Dr Sherwani has worked as a consultant for various telecommunications and computer companies, mainly focusing on ASIC design flow and cell library design to improve time to market.

He also served as a professor at Western Michigan University, where his research concentrated on VLSI physical design automation, combinatorics and graph algorithms.

Dr Sherwani is the author of the main textbook on physical design, which is widely used at major universities around the world.

In addition, he has authored or co-authored various books and articles on physical design automation and ASICs and has been a frequent speaker at international technical conferences around the world.

Dr Sherwani received his PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

"The groundbreaking technology that Pyxis is creating offers significant solutions for the DFM/DFY problems that designers and foundries are faced with".

"I am happy to join Pyxis' technical advisory board", said Dr Sherwani.

Dr Sherwani joins a distinguished group of experts in design, lithography, and yield already on Pyxis' Technical Advisory Board.

The TAB includes Warren Grobman, PhD, a consultant in manufacturability-driven design who was director of design-to-manufacturing solutions for Motorola until he retired last year; Mark McDermott, Principal and General Partner in the Silicon Web Group and an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Texas; David Z Pan, Assistant Professor and Director of the University of Texas Design Automation Laboratory in Austin; and Riko Radojcic, a consultant to semiconductor and EDA companies who specialises in the integration of semiconductor process and design considerations.
