Daewoo Precision Industries has selected the QNX Neutrino real-time operating system (RTOS) as the foundation for its next generation of in-car navigation systems.

A centrepiece in Daewoo's VisionJoy line of vehicle information systems, the navigation system is available today in Korea through Daewoo's network of automotive retailers.

The VisionJoy system is an integrated navigation and information unit that relies on the QNX Neutrino RTOS for its ultrareliable operation.

The system uses a touch screen interface and GPS-enabled communications to provide drivers with services such as traffic and congestion updates, automatic route selection, and detailed "turn-by-turn" voice directions.

To deliver quick command response times and superior performance, the VisionJoy system takes advantage of QNX Neutrino's proven real-time capabilities and modular, memory-protected design.

A range of integrated QNX software modules, including the Photon microGUI, graphics drivers, networking stacks and a Flash file manager, help deliver a seamless user experience.

"We're very pleased that Daewoo has selected QNX technology to deploy this and other in-car navigation products", said Dan Dodge, CEO of QNX Software Systems.

"With our robust, automotive-grade OS technology and industry-leading development environment, we look forward to a continued and successful relationship with Daewoo".
