Cable assembly covers Chinese quality shortfall

A Quadrant Connections product story

A bespoke semirigid coax cable assembly is produced at very short notice for a company that supplies high-technology solutions to utility companies throughout Scandinavia.

Quadrant has designed and produced a bespoke, semirigid coax cable assembly that acts as an extender for use with communication terminals for AMR (automatic meter reading) equipment.

The assembly was produced at very short notice for a Swedish company that supplies high-technology solutions to utility companies throughout Scandinavia.

The contract was awarded to replace a component that was originally sourced from China that failed to achieve the high reliability standards required for the project, and a quick response both in terms of design and volume manufacture was essential to keep the challenging installation programme of AMR units on schedule.

The assembly, measuring just 30mm, is terminated with customised male and female SMA connectors, a product that Quadrant designed and ramped up to full production quantities of over 5000 a week within four weeks.

Modern AMR technology enables utility companies to develop new services for their customers such as smoke, fire, burglar and water leakage alarms, plus energy and load management systems and message handling services.
