QuickLogic has released an advanced reference design kit for Fibre Channel and other high-speed serial applications Using the advanced features of the QuickFC Fibre Channel ENDEC ESP device, the kit enables engineers to develop complete board-level high-speed serial designs running up to 2.5Gbit/s

The QuickFC Reference Design Kit (RDK) allows system engineers to develop and test their designs in hardware and quickly create software drivers, significantly reducing overall development time.

The RDK includes a hardware development board that plugs into a standard 32 or 64bit PCI slot.

This board features a GBIC (optical/electrical interface), SERDES, QL5064 64bit PCI controller, FIFOs and a socketed QuickFC QL80FC device.

Also included in the RDK are reference designs for the programmable portions of the QL80FC and QL5064 devices, software drivers, and board schematic and layout files.

Based on Finisar's industry-leading gigabit-rate technology, the QuickFC devices supported by the RDK offer an integrated Fibre Channel encoder/decoder (ENDEC) together with a platform of configurable SRAM/FIFOs and a programmable fabric with 132,000 system gates.

The QuickFC ENDEC function supports standard Fibre Channel performance rates of 1.062Gbit/s (single rate) and 2.125Gbit/s (double rate) with up to 2.5Gbit/s throughput, and is designed for use with industry-standard gigabit SERDES transmitter-receiver devices.

This combination of features makes QuickFC devices ideal for designs that require customisation to the standard Fibre Channel protocol, such as proprietary storage area networks and RAID architectures, as well as customisation for any gigabit serial transmissions.

The QuickLogic Fibre Channel RDK is available now at $1995.
