The QuickLogic QV-DSP1RDK is a comprehensive RDK (reference development kit) that speeds system-on-chip designs for all members of the QuickDSP and Eclipse families.

The QV-DSP1RDK is an integrated hardware and software package that allows demonstration, testing and debugging of QuickDSP designs for devices in a 516-pin BGA package.

The new RDK, designed and developed with Tekgenix can be used as a stand-alone development system or as a coprocessor with third-party programmable DSP DSK/EVM boards.

It includes a socketed QL7180, 516-pin device with an embedded 8bit microcontroller from QuickCores, a modifiable coefficient FIR filter, UART and Flash memory interface.

Input is through an integrated RS-232 port and onboard audio CODEC with mini jacks and a two-line LCD screen to enable output of results.

An ICC monitor will allow customers to dynamically measure current for those high-channel or high-speed applications.

When the RDK is used in conjunction with a third-party DSP DSK or EVM board, the QL7180 can function as a directly connected coprocessor to the hosting DSP device.

This allows designers to quickly investigate the benefits of using the QL7180 to offload compute-intensive tasks from their stand-alone DSP solutions.

This high-speed glueless connection between the host DSP and the QL7180 also makes it possible for designers to easily control the QL7180's embedded task via their familiar DSP software tools or debugging environment.

Software includes evaluation copies of two C compilers and a source-level debugger, all of which work seamlessly with the embedded microcontroller from QuickCores.

The RDK also is capable of downloading coefficients from QuickFilter - QuickLogic's easy to use filter design package, for the modifiable coefficient FIR filter.

Documentation includes source code for the microcontroller application as well as HDL and QuickWorks design files for the QL7180.

A design guide, user's guide and application notes also are included to speed system designs.

The QV-DSP1RDK will be priced under $1000 and should be available in Q3 2001.
