Linux tools are optimised for QuickMIPS

QuickLogic has optimised its suite of Linux tools for the QuickMIPS product family, including the recently announced QL902M, QL903M and QL904M devices.

This combination provides embedded systems designers using Linux with a complete "out-of-the-box" solution, allowing them to focus engineering efforts on the development of software that provides end-system differentiation.

The package includes: a 2.4.20 Linux kernel; device drivers for the key on-chip peripherals, including the Ethernet ports and the peripheral component interconnect (PCI) interface; and a set of Gnu-based development tools.

"Approximately 80% of our customers are contemplating the use of Linux as the software platform for their embedded systems", said Ian Ferguson, Vice President and General Manager, QuickMIPS Division.

"The key focus for QuickLogic is the delivery of proven code for all software elements that are hardware-specific, including the standard on-chip peripherals on the QuickMIPS devices and turnkey IP implemented in the programmable fabric".

Recognising that customer's requirements for Linux solutions do vary, QuickLogic is implementing a two-tier strategy toward delivering QuickMIPS-optimised Linux solutions.

In addition to the release of its own Linux package, the company will enable other third-party Linux providers to release solutions optimised for the QuickMIPS product family.

These will include feature-rich development tools and application-specific software optimised for specific end applications.

QuickLogic's Linux software package, supporting all members of the QuickMIPS product family, is available now.

This software is provided free of charge and is also royalty free.
