QuickLogic Europe has launched a companion device for Intel's PXA processor, providing an efficient interface to Intel's wired Ethernet controllers Based on QuickLogic's QuickPCI family of programmable bridge controllers, this is the third companion device for the PXA, further enabling Intel's push into embedded applications

Ethernet is the prevalent technology for today's wired networks.

Many low power embedded processors, such as Intel's PXA, do not integrate a PCI controller - as required by most LAN devices developed for PC platforms.

By using the integrated PCI controller in the companion device, QuickLogic provides efficient low-power connectivity to these LAN devices.

This interface approach provides designers of embedded systems with access to cost-effective technologies that are typically only available on the PC platform.

"QuickLogic's low power programmable technology provides an ideal platform for delivering PXA companion devices", said Owen Bateman, Sales Director of QuickLogic Europe.

"We continue to see an expanding market for integrating Ethernet connectivity in embedded applications".

"By delivering low power, cost-effective solutions, we are well positioned to address the needs of developers in this field".

"By using QuickLogic's PXA companion devices we are able to target new segments of the growing embedded Ethernet market", says Travis Johnson, Product Marketing Engineer in the Intel Embedded LAN Operation.

"QuickLogic's PXA companion device helps us offer a more complete Intel platform solution to embedded customers".

In collaboration with Intel, QuickLogic has verified device drivers for both Windows CE 5.0 and Linux.

Additionally, Intel has performed system-level verification and performance testing of the end-to-end solution using the QuickLogic MAB mobile application board.

The MAB is a daughterboard that plugs into the Intel PXA270 DVK (Mainstone) development system, and significantly reduces design time by allowing engineers to codevelop software and hardware.

The companion device is currently available in production quantities.

Pricing will be below $5 in high volume by the end of 2006.
