Multiband transceiver has global appeal
Single-chip CMOS transceiver provides global roaming capabilities with multiband UMTS and quad-band Edge.
Qualcomm has announced a single-chip UMTS complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) transceiver designed to enable more affordable devices.
The RTR6280 transceiver provides global roaming capabilities with multiband UMTS and quad-band Edge.
"We remain committed to enabling lower-cost devices, from entry-level handsets to feature-rich Smartphones", said Luis Pineda, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Management for Qualcomm CDMA Technologies.
"The RTR6280 is designed to deliver global UMTS roaming capabilities at significantly lower cost and with high levels of integration to optimise the sise and power consumption of devices".
The RTR6280 solution, as well as the company's recently sampled RTR6285 transceiver, which features the RTR6280 solution's functionality with the addition of receive diversity and GPS, is the world's smallest dual-mode transceiver with multiband UMTS and quad-band Edge.
The RTR6280 transceiver supports a variety of band combinations: Japanese triple-band UMTS (bands 1, 6, 9); European emerging dual-band UMTS (bands 1, 8); Chinese and rest-of-world single and dual-band UMTS (bands 1, 3); and Global GSM and Edge (800/900/1800/1900MHz).
The RTR6280 transceiver is designed in a cost-effective CMOS process to enable more cost-efficient devices.
The transceiver also replaces previous-generation, two-chip RF solutions and can reduce overall power consumption by up to 50%.
Innovative circuit and system design further reduce the handset bill-of-materials costs by eliminating external passive components, such as select surface acoustic wave filters.
The high level of integration in a compact uQFN package enables slim, sleek form factors for mobile handsets.
The RTR6280 is scheduled to sample in the first quarter of 2007 as part of complete Mobile Station Modem (MSM) solutions, including the MSM6245, MSM6255A, MSM6260 and MSM6280A chipsets.
