RadioScape makes final list for award
RadioScape has been recognised as a finalist in The Wall Street Journal Europe's Business Innovation Awards.
RadioScape has been recognised as a finalist in The Wall Street Journal Europe's Business Innovation Awards for enabling low-cost wireless data transmission and reception products for the digital radio network.
RadioScape was awarded a runner-up prize in the 'Broadcast, satellite, and broadband' category for being one of the first companies to grasp the potential of digital radio as a medium for transmitting data content similar to that available today on digital television and the Internet.
These include electronic programme guides (EPGs) that will provide consumers with never-before-seen levels of interactivity with their radios.
RadioScape, whose customers include Texas Instruments, NTL and Psion, has developed the technology responsible for 80% of the UK's digital radio broadcasts.
RadioScape's digital radio software is also at the core of the world's most popular receivers.
In July 2001, Texas Instruments and RadioScape has announced the launch of a chipset that will enable the manufacture of digital radios retailing at under GBP 100.
Enabling receivers to achieve mass-market penetration, this is widely regarded as the holy grail of the digital radio industry.
Backed by Atlas Ventures, JAFCO, Texas Instruments, NTL and Psion, RadioScape has been developing solutions to simplify the creation of wireless receivers and transmission infrastructure since 1996.
The company's unique product range, built on its Communication Virtual Machine (CVM) software platform, was initially deployed within the digital radio industry.
RadioScape is now developing products that will enable wireless OEMs to bring rapidly to market products for other digital communications standards, including 3G, Wireless LANs and beyond.
Peter Florence, cofounder and managing director at RadioScape commented: "We are honoured to receive such prestigious recognition from The Wall Street Journal Europe.
This award marks an important milestone for our company and further enhances our reputation for excellence.
Our technology has enabled both the transmission of digital radio services and the creation of low-cost digital radio chipsets.
We will continue to produce and market innovations that will change the way that people think about radio both today and in the future".
Fred Kempe, Editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe said, "We were very impressed with the calibre of the business entries and hope the awards will go on to help foster new ideas, new inventions and new talents.
Given the present economic climate, it is right to step back and look for signs of hope - for new approaches that could make the future brighter than the present.
The innovation awards are our way of encouraging and identifying new ideas in business and technology, and publicising them - giving them the oxygen of public recognition, to help them thrive and foster more innovation".
