RadioScape's RS200 DAB/FM receiver module has just been named TechCon Product of the Year 2004.

RadioScape's RS200 DAB/FM receiver module has just been named TechCon Product of the Year 2004 The award was presented on Monday 12th July 2004 at the Radio Festival organised by The Radio Academy and held in Birmingham, UK

Six products were short-listed and each was given a two minute slot to present to the attending delegates, who voted for the product that "no self-respecting broadcaster should be without" by using SMS texting.

"This is tremendous recognition that our software-defined modules are changing the dynamics of the digital radio industry by making it possible to create a highly diverse range of high quality, consumer-priced DAB receivers in large volumes to stimulate and satisfy the growing DAB market", said Nigel Oakley who made the presentation and collected the prize.

"There is no other company with the end-to-end understanding of digital radio that we have from broadcast to reception technology".

"Over 40% of the DAB broadcasters around the world use our broadcast suite of software giving us in-depth systems knowledge to create these award-winning receiver modules".

John Bradford, Director of The Radio Academy, said: "The Radio Academy congratulates RadioScape and was delighted to promote this award for technological innovation that plays such an important part in driving our industry forward".

RadioScape's unique DAB modules use software running on a Texas Instruments DSP.

As all the functionality is in the software, it is very easy and quick to implement enhancements and new features, unlike rival products that use fixed, hardware-based solutions.

This software-defined approach also ensures that products can have a different look and feel to each other by having a customised software suite of functions and user interface.

All the components in the modules are readily available standard parts, providing surety of supply for the high volume demands that are now building for DAB receivers.

RadioScape uses all its many man-years of experience in world-class RF design to ensure that the modules deliver optimal sensitivity for top quality reception, thereby removing this complex design stage for manufacturers who simply need to add basic analogue components around the module to create a working DAB receiver.

As a result, receivers based on RadioScape modules currently account for over a third of DAB radio sales in the UK with leading manufacturers such as Roberts Radio, Intempo Digital, Acoustic Solutions and Hitachi basing their designs on them.

RadioScape has won many awards since it was founded in 1996 to create software-defined solutions for digital radio.

These include being ranked in the 2002 Sunday Times Tech Track 100, the 2002 Guardian BT Vision 100 index of the UK's most visionary organisations, the 2002 Time Magazine's Europe's 50 Hottest Tech Firms and a finalist in the 2001 Wall Street Journal Business Innovations Awards.
