New digital radio designs are created in response to manufacturers and brands looking for fresh concepts to drive greater growth in DAB adoption.

RadioScape has unveiled a number of new digital radio designs in its digital showroom during the recent Hong Kong Electronics Fair These have been created in response to manufacturers and brands looking for fresh concepts to drive greater growth in DAB adoption

The innovative digital showroom showcased crystal clear digital sound, transmitted and received using the recently announced DAB+ 6.0 fusion broadcasting infrastructure solution.

"The introduction of DAB+ has been well received by broadcasters across the globe and especially in the Asia-Pacific region where new digital radio networks are now being established", said John Hall, CEO of RadioScape.

"DAB+ provides a significant increase in the number of audio services compared with DAB, providing more choice for consumers".

"Fusion delivers broadcasters high functionality and flexibility while also significantly reducing the cost per audio channel", continued Hall.

Commenting about the new products displayed in the digital showroom, Hall added: "We are extremely proud and excited about the solutions we showcased in Hong Kong".

"RadioScape is widely recognised as an innovative company in the digital radio market".

"It is the combination of our unmatched radio systems and market knowledge that has made it possible to bring these exciting new products to market, supporting the needs of our key customers who are looking for new and innovative DAB and Internet radio designs".

Visitors to the digital showroom were amongst the first to hear RadioScape's DAB-on-a-wire plug-in digital radio for the iPod.

They also saw the world's first portable Internet radio, with built in Wi-Fi and FM antennas, 2.1 audio output, plus an option to use a 128 x 64 pixel graphics LCD and Radioscape's Touchnav touch-sensitive slide control.

RadioScape also demonstrated the transmission of slide show images to a colour screen DAB radio.

Applications for this technology include local and national traffic maps and weather reports made available by broadcasters.

As well as enabling still images to be shown on the radio, RadioScape has developed additional technology to enable pictures to be synchronised to the audio stream which will provide broadcasters with a potentially powerful advertising tool.

The soon-to-be-released RS223 digital radio module, a pin-compatible upgrade for the 200 and 220 series modules, was also demonstrated.

Featuring increased processing power, the RS223 enables support for the new DAB+ digital radio standard, which is based on the HE AAC v2 audio codec.

This new version of the DAB standard will be adopted in Australia with network rollout in 2008.

Other emerging markets are expected to follow closely.

"The scope and range of solutions we demonstrated in Hong Kong underlines RadioScape's position as the leading provider of total end-to-end digital radio solutions".

"It also underlines our position as one of the most innovative companies within the sector", concluded Hall.
