Solder sleeves take shields down to
earth
Radiall has a new range of heat shrinkable soldering sleeves.
Radiall has a new range of heat shrinkable soldering sleeves The MIL-S-83519 series of heat shrinkable Kynar (PVDF) sleeves from Radial-Jerrik is a covenient, simple to use means of connecting cable shields to ground leads while providing an insulated, environmentally protected and strain relieved termination

Polarised connectors reject standard mates
Radiall's latest polarised connectors (also known as reverse polarity connectors), feature centre contacts that are reversed in polarity from standard connectors.
Conforming to the guidelines of MIL-S-85319 for aerospace practices when heat is applied the internal solder preform melts and flows connecting the co-axial cable shield to the ground lead, the outer sleeve shrinks to provide mechanical protection and strain relief and the thermoplastic inserts at each end melt flow sealing the connection.
Electrical conductivity is maintained while immersed in fluids at altitudes up to 75,000 feet as required by the specification making these products suitable for use in many demanding military applications.
Connections are made using a heat gun operating in the power range 1100 to 1500W.
The sleeve includes a heat activated colour indicator which disappears when the correct amount of heat has been applied and heat resistant markings indicating the MIL-Spec code.
This makes the sleeve easy to use and inspect.
Two types of shield are available; one with no ground lead and the other with a preinstalled ground lead.
The standard flux used is RMAP for tin or silver plated connectors and special sleeves are available for lower temperature wire installation and conductors that may be difficult to solder.
