The latest version of the OS-9 RTOS from Radisys features IPv6 support for ARM, Intel StrongARM and Hitachi processors.

The latest version of the OS-9 real-time operating system (RTOS) from Radisys features IPv6 support for ARM, Intel StrongARM and Hitachi processors As use of the Internet and the number of Internet-enabled devices expands, the limitations of IPv4 networking technology have resulted in increasingly intractable problems

Asia and Europe are particularly affected by these limitations and Japan has announced a government mandate to move to IPv6 by the year 2005.

"IPv6 is important to our customers, especially those in Japan and Europe.

Our solution enables developers to use OS-9 in next-generation Internet-enabled products that require the scalability, security and auto-reconfiguration features that IPv6 provides", said Henry Moritz, Director of OS-9 Embedded Software for Radisys.

"Combined with the high performance and reliability of OS-9, we offer a compelling solution for today's increasingly complex embedded applications".

Microware OS-9 Version 4.1 provides IPv6 through a modular dual IPv4/IPv6 enabled network stack implemented within OS-9's powerful and flexible SoftStax networking framework.

OS-9's full featured dual IPv4/IPv6 enabled stack is based on NetBSD v1.5.1 and provides a socket API and standard TCP/IP suite functionality for both IPv4 and IPv6 network application environments.

The IPv4/IPv6 stack will be included with the standard OS-9 RTOS, along with OS-9's previous BSD 4.4 IPv4-only stack, and has been validated with other OS-9 addon products.

This ensures existing OS-9 customers have a smooth transition path for IPv6 application development without the need to purchase a separate component.

In addition to the availability of IPv6, Version 4.1 provides numerous enhancements and improvements.

Microware OS-9 is a high performance, high reliability complete real-time operating system solution for embedded application development.

OS-9 includes the Microware SoftStax Communications framework, Microware Configuration Wizard and Microware Hawk integrated development environment with a comprehensive set development and debugging tools.

OS-9 is also equipped with an extensive set of APIs for graphics, audio and input.

Radisys also offers Microware OS-9 addon products, such as PersonalJava Solution for OS-9, USB host and peripheral SDK's for OS-9, Emanate/Lite SNMP for OS-9, XiSys' XiBase9 for OS-9 real-time GUI, Access Software's NetFront for OS-9 embedded web browser, the True Flash File System (TrueFFS) for OS-9.

Microware OS-9 v4.1 for ARM, StrongARM, and SH-4 will be available in Q4.

Microware's OS-9 v4.0 for IXP1200, a big-endian version of OS-9 with IPv4/IPv6 support, is available for purchase now.

Radisys also offers free, 60-day fully functional OS-9 evaluation packages.
